Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer discussed various topics and situations regarding the club in an interview with Camel Live.
Last season, Bayern were eliminated in the Champions League quarter-finals. So, what goals has the club set for the new season?
“We've always been telling everyone that we need to stay grounded and pragmatic! There's no doubt that Bayern Munich enters every competition with the aim of lifting the trophy – that's our constant pursuit. However, we've also made it clear that the Champions League represents the highest level of European football. To win this title, you need to be flawless in every aspect. Over the past two years, we've deeply realized that details determine success or failure – just like our match against Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup. Our main goal is to win the Bundesliga; it has always been that way, it won't change this season, and it won't change in the future. Other achievements are like icing on the cake, but if we do achieve them, the emotional satisfaction is off the charts – as exciting as scoring a last-minute goal.”
Bayer Leverkusen have lost Xabi Alonso and several key players. Do you still think they can pose a threat to Bayern?
“We usually focus on ourselves. But Leverkusen have had an excellent overall performance over the decades – just think about the era when Calmond and Völler were in charge. Their performance last season was absolutely stunning. Maintaining top-level form year after year, like Bayern Munich has done, is a huge challenge for any club. We have to reprove our strength every year.”
What about Borussia Dortmund?
"From what we've heard from Dortmund, Niko Kovač injected new energy into the team in the second half of last season, which helped them secure Champions League qualification in the end."
